How to Stay Calm in the Dental Chair

Posted .

If you ever feel nervous in the dental chair, then our dentist, Dr. Richard J. Gawarzewski, wants to help you have a more comfortable, relaxing, and calming dental experience. That way you can enjoy your time at our office. Fortunately, there are things you can do to eliminate your dental nerves during your visit. Those things are:

-Bring someone you trust with you to your appointment. This can help you feel more comfortable because they will be by your side holding your hand. They can tell you stories to keep your mind off the treatment and they can even oversee everything that happens in your mouth. That way they can reassure you that everything is ok.

-Bring a distraction. This can be anything that takes your mind off the treatment, like music, movies, podcasts, and more. Just pop in your headphones while you’re receiving treatment and focus on the entertainment instead of the techniques being performed. It’s best if the entertainment is relaxing rather than intense or suspenseful.

-Try relaxation techniques. If you control your breathing and use breathing exercises throughout your appointment, you can slow your heart rate and release the tension you feel in your body. This can help you feel more calm in the dental chair.
